Cycling is the best way to experience your surroundings. You see so much more, hear everything and can smell the environment. Cycling on Goeree-Overflakkee is cycling through the unique dune area of the Kwade Hoek, along the Slikken (mudflats) of Flakkee, crossing the Tiengementen, on dykes along Lake Grevelingen, along harbour channels and through the historical city centres. The network of cycle routes and the various themed routes are perfect for navigating during a beautiful day on the bike.
Goeree-Overflakkee has a network of cycle routes that take you to certain junctions where you can see the most beautiful places of the island. Each junction has a sign with its junction number and directions to the other junctions. The signage along the route will keep you on route to the next junction. This way you can plan your route exactly to your liking.
Maps of the cycle network are available at the Goeree-Overflakkee Tourist Information Inspiration Point. You can choose between the Goeree-Overflakkee/Schouwen-Duiveland network map or the Goeree-Overflakkee/Voorne-Putten. The maps cost €5 each.
If you go cycling you are, of course, not restricted to the island. Throughout the year, ferries run in several locations. The various ferries run from the island Tiengemeten to Voorne Putten, Schouwen-Duiveland or West-Brabant. When you are cycling, a ferry crossing can be a fun break. Make sure to check the various timetables before you leave as some ferries stop running during winter.
If bringing your bicycle is not a possibility, you can rent bikes at various locations on the island. Most bicycle rental places offer fair prices for regular and electric bikes, but also special bikes, for example, accessible bikes. If your children are too young to ride a bike, you can rent an electric carrier bike. These bikes allow you to effortlessly take your children on a tour of the island.
