There is no time to be bored on Goeree-Overflakkee. The combination of water and land allows for extremely diverse events and festivals. From culinary delights, outdoor concerts, action on the water to a silent walk through nature. On top of that, there are markets, exhibitions and excursions.
Goeree-Overflakkee has many nature reserves, some of which you can visit with unique excursions. Experience the Slikken (mudflats) of Flakkee by horse and cart, a walk in the dark through the Kwade Hoek (Angry Corner) or look for the Big Five of Goeree-Overflakkee on a combined walking and boating trip. Staatsbosbeheer (Dutch Forestry Commission), Natuurmonumenten (Dutch Society for Nature Conservation) and other organisations organise excursions in which you become one with nature.
Spend a morning strolling through the market, with various mini and week markets no to be missed. In addition to the regular markets, various villages host summer markets and flea markets.
You can, of course, dine at your accommodation, in a good restaurant or grab a snack on the way, but if you are looking for something different, make sure to visit one of the food-related events on the island. There are some finger-licking good food truck festivals held throughout the year, including Smaak aan Zee (Taste at Sea), The Port Days of Goeree or Vis Uut 't Vuustje (Fish from the Fist) during the Goeree Fish Week. Events often serve local foods.
